What’s this Year One thing, anyways?

Draw2d2 – Year One, an explanation:

You may have noticed under our “next mash-up banner” at the top of the page, it reads “Special Topic: Year One.” If you’re saying to yourself, “Wait! That sure doesn’t sound like a mash-up!,” then you wouldn’t be wrong.  It is not!

Since we will soon be ushering in the New Year, we thought this topic was a more fitting way for our artists to let their geek chops show, and really… get nuts!

11ONE9 – Sci-Fi Pinups – Philosophy Gallery

Last Saturday, Nov. 19th, was the opening of the 11ONE9 show held at the Philosophy gallery in Paducah Kentucky.

Featuring a collection of works by 4 artists. John Romang, Thom Whalen, Shane Harris, and myself (Adam Carlson). It was an eclectic mix of Fine Art Ceramics, Abstract installation, and expressive oil painting.

The Turtles are back!

Yes, that’s right, those turtles, of the teenage mutant variety, are going back to their roots with a brand new comic book.   IDW is publishing with scripts by Tom Waltz and art by Dan Duncan. What’s really great about this news is one of the original creators Kevin Eastman is co-writing and doing covers!

Being a child of the 80′s the turtles mean a great deal to me. Honestly it was almost impossible not to be, as you couldn’t turn a corner without being accosted by some sort of turtles’ merchandise; Video games, backpacks, t-shirts, movies, cartoons, lunchboxes, seat covers, towels, skateboards, cereal, candy, frozen pizzas, life insurance plans, adult diapers, and many many others. Welcome to Captain’s Blog!

Hello Team!!
We are excited to welcome you to our new feature here at Draw2D2….Captain’s Blog!  What is Captain’s Blog you ask?  Allow us to illustrate (heh…get it?).  As you know, we LOVE doing geeky mash-ups.  You could say it’s our thing.  However, our geek runs deep!  Sometimes we just need to talk about geek things, or let people know about geek happenings.  We may even create some art that is geek, but perhaps not a mash-up.  That, ladies and gentlemen, is why we created Captain’s Blog.
Under the Geek Speak section you will find all manner of geek discussion.  Any little and exciting thing that enters our minds and needs to be shared with you.  There is also an Art section where we will post any other work we do, unrelated to that week’s particular mash-up.  We have a News section that will keep you posted on any cool openings, happenings and goings on.  And finally we have “What If,” a featured section where we take an idea and say “what if..?”  For example… what if Darth Vader and Mysterio switched helmets??  What if Lois Lane fell in love with Jimmy Olsen???  What if Spider-Man lived in Ancient Egypt!?!?! (check it out, you might just find that one!).
So check back often, as we will be posting new and awesome things on the reg.  Thanks for reading and enjoy Captain’s Blog!

Art Out Loud 7 at the Society of Illustrators

Irene Gallo has lined up an all-star roster for the 7th installment of Art Out Loud, a live painting demonstration held at the Society of Illustrators. This year’s roster includes: Julie Bell, Rick Berry, Donato Giancola, Greg Manchess, and Boris Vallejo.
For those of you unfamiliar with the event, this is not a lecture. These artists will not be sitting behind a desk talking about how they work. They will be showing you… all of themsimultaneously!
Art out loud 4 hour event will be held on Saturday, September 24th. Tickets are $50, or just $20 if you are a student!  Space is extremely limited, and the event always sells out, so I advise you to RSVP well in advance by calling the Society at 212-838-2560.
For more info on the event, check out the Facebook page HERE, or the Society’s official page HERE.
I will be attending so if anyone is in the New York Area and happens to snag themselves a ticket to watch Boris Vallejo paint a DRAGON! let me know and we can meet up! See ya there!
