11ONE9 – Sci-Fi Pinups – Philosophy Gallery

Last Saturday, Nov. 19th, was the opening of the 11ONE9 show held at the Philosophy gallery in Paducah Kentucky.

Featuring a collection of works by 4 artists. John Romang, Thom Whalen, Shane Harris, and myself (Adam Carlson). It was an eclectic mix of Fine Art Ceramics, Abstract installation, and expressive oil painting.

This year my subject matter was, “Sci-Fi Pin-ups”. I wanted to blend my love for expressive figurative work with my love for Sci-Fi.  Simply put, I wanted to paint powerful women with ray guns.  These women can hold their own in battle and are confidently flirtatious. This is just a sample from the show. To see all of my Sci-Fi Pin-ups you can visit my website carlsonillustration.com

6" x 8" oil on canvas

Here is one of John Romang’s colorful light box installations. Ink in Resin panels artfully constructed into custom build wooden light boxes.  Amazing pieces. He has more work on his website, JohnRomang.com

Here is an example of Shane Harris’ amazing Ceramic pieces. His small and highly detailed pieces force the viewer into an intimate experience for the viewer.  You can see more of his work at his website shaneharrisceramics.com

This is one of Thom Whalen’s new black and white images. Oil on Canvas.  These pieces are incredibly intricant with socio-political symbolism and other current topics.  You see something new each time you look at a Thom Whalen.
